7pm – Groton Town Hall

  1. Call meeting to order.
  2. August minutes.
  3. Discussion of historical markers/signage effort. A new Historical Plaque application has been received for 134 Main St., submitted by Linda Jordan.  It would read (assuming approval from Historical Commission and HDC):

"Historic District

Calvin Boynton, Blacksmith

Everett B. Gerrish, Businessman"

 

  1. Update on use of AI in the future to record meetings, draft minutes.
  2. Open FY25 funded CPC project updates:
    1. Historical mile marker project.
  3. Open FY26 funded CPC project updates:
    1. Bancroft Castle. Grant and Clawback Agreement drafted by Town Counsel and negotiated with the Webbers.  Select Board has authorized Town Manager to sign.  Historical Commission and CPC need to authorize their respective Chairs to sign.  Vote to be taken. 
    2. Prescott School
    3. History Center
    4. Williams Barn
  4. Updates regarding digital storage project in cooperation with the Groton Public Library. How should we interact with/partner with the Library.
  5. Discussion of Historical Commission's role as it pertains to new construction.
  6. Discussion of Master Plan historic preservation codes in the new Master Plan and how they relate to the Community Preservation Committee grant process.
  7. Discussion of revisiting metal detector bylaw.
  8. Discussion regarding proceduralizing out review of demo permit applications.
  9. Discussion of historical significance of 117 Main St., which is soon to be offered for sale.
  10. Topics not anticipated within 48 hours of the meeting.
  11. Discussion of HDC's possible initiative to expand Groton's Historic Districts. HDC has requested that Historical Commission take a vote to endorse.
  12. New business.
