“Sustainability and Groton: What You Can Do” Informational Seminar Series
Session 3: “Home Heating and Cooling Options”
Groton's Sustainability Commission will host the third seminar in our FREE series on June 15th at 7:00pm at the Groton Center in West Groton (163 West Main St) and it will also be recorded by The Groton Channel.
This seminar will be a presentation and interactive discussion focused on "Heating & Cooling Options"; the many options available for heating and cooling your home or business to reduce your carbon footprint.
Greenhouse gas emissions from buildings contribute 30% to overall emissions in the Commonwealth and building heating is the primary source of residential emissions. After learning in the second seminar about the many cost-effective ways to reduce the amount of energy used in our homes through energy efficiency, our next seminar will cover cleaner, more efficient, ways of heating and cooling our homes.
The seminar will feature Bob Zogg from the HeatSmart Alliance, a volunteer-based coaching organization for air-source and ground-source heat pumps, who will explain the many benefits of heating with heat pumps, how they work, as well as the financial incentives available. Bruce Dike of New England Solar Hot Water will explain several clean energy options for efficient water heating, including heat pump hybrid water heaters, solar water heaters, and solar-assisted heat pump water heaters. Finally, Phil Francisco, Vice-Chair of the Groton Sustainability Commission, will cover heating with biofuels.
Next Seminar Session: June 29th, 2023 – “Land Use Case Study”
